Tales From A Wife: Living and Loving

(Almost) Every girl/guy dreams of the day he/she's going to get married, have kids, and, live happily ever after. I wished for it, but NEVER thought it would come true. Fast forward to married me, mother of two and here I am!

At their best, relationships - no matter the level of seriousness, should motivate you to become your best woman. Women are like snowflakes. We all come w/ our own different set of needs and expectations. However, there are a few attributes that ALL women can agree they look for in their potential lover. We want him to be attentive, communicative, and understanding to all the sensitivities and hormonal imbalances that have become the gift and the curse of our womanhood.

Now that She's So New York is heading into our relationships week, I've decided to share a few tips that can help you get the most out of the chemistry you share with your lover. So, whether it's short-term, live-in, long distance, or waiting for gay marriage to FINALLY be legal, here's a few need-to-knows that will enhance what you already have!

1. Be each other's friends as well as lovers: You've heard this before right? But how many of us actually understand what this rule entails? You and your mate should be able to spend a reasonable amount of time together, one-on-one. No cells, no friends, no bullshit. Just the two of you. If you can't laugh together, talk about any and everything, be silly, then, is it even worth it?.

2. Respect each other's space: One of the best things about a secure relationship, is doing completely different things and never forgetting about each other. I respect my husband's need for video games and sports, while he knows I live for She's So New York. If your lover wants to do something without you, as long as it is within the boundaries and respect of the relationship, by all means, LET THEM. Stifling a person can drain a relationship and therefore leave a person itching to run for the border. Space doesn't mean lack of love or like for you, but rather away to keep it fresh.

3. RESPECT EACH OTHER!!: While we're on the subject of respecting. I have tirelessly heard thousands of stories, all with the same scenario: a partner does something (that they themselves would hate happen to them) to their significant other and refuses totake responsibility for their actions. We have to take consideration for each other's feelings, think before we act and do things we may regret later. Before doing something questionable, ask yourself: "How would I feel if he/she did this to me?" If you can be honest with yourself and say that you would feel less than stellar, DON'T DO IT. You can't ask for respect, if you're not willing to give respect.

4. Communicate, even when you don't want to: No conversation is too little - even the most minuscule of things should be communicated with each other. Never assume, it is always important to talk to your mate when you are unsure of something. Lack of communication is the #1 killer of all relationships, aside from lack of honesty and infidelity. It is a personal theory of mine that not speaking to one another is the springboard for the most unnecessary of damaging things to arelationship: cheating. Be honest with yourself and with your partner.Discuss things in depth, and DON'T ARGUE!

5. Know who you are, it might save you some trouble later: All too often, I see many people in dead-end relationships. You know them: the ones who are utterly unhappy, dread speaking/seeing/knowing this person, yet stay. Fear of loneliness and the unknown has been the notorious reason for these couples who hate each other, but hate the idea of being without each other. Like the song goes, you gotta know when to fold em. Had I listened to this same advice years ago, I would've saved myself a whole lot of pain and anguish. You have to know who you are, what you want, what you don't want. While all relationships require a little bit of compromise, you have to know what you're not willing to accept. Dead end relationships keep you from the one you're destined to be with (if you believe in that sort of thing), and most importantly, keep you from being your best self. Stop compromising your happiness, leave when you've exhausted all options.

Have I missed anything? Do you agree/disagree? Do YOU believe that a successful drama free relationship can exist in the Big Apple? Why/Why Not? Leave your comments here and share your own experiences with us! Send your entries to walkergordonproductions@gmail.com!

Living Well and Spending Less (At the Same Time!)

The average one-bedroom New York City apartment is rented out for around $1,150 a month, give (usually) or take (rarely) a few hundred. And, if you've got a shitty job like I do, you're barely making that a month.

Money. Don't. Come. Easy.

Most of us transplant-tenderonies arrived to this city with stars in our eyes, cotton-candy dreams, and chump change in our back pockets. We might have a similar dating pattern and taste in clothes as Miranda or Carrie, but our mere scruples can't hold a candle to their dividends, let alone that of well-to-do millionaire wife Charlotte, or PR powerhouse Samantha. In the real world, trying to keep up with your bills, your kids, your family, and your man is more than enough, without having to worry about keeping up with the Joneses.

Nonetheless, every woman wants to live well and - occasionally, enjoy the finer things in life. It may seem impossible when you're in the midst of a financial crisis, but, if you follow our guide to being financially stress free, worrying about bills could be an all but played-out phase of the past. By reinventing how you have a good time out, focusing on what you already possess, all the while, working towards something in life that brings you not only money, but joy, you'll find that you've had access to the finer things in life the entire time!

We here at SSNY used this week as a warm-up for our upcoming "Budgeting in Your Borough" issue, following the official launch of ShesSoNewYork.com. We've been gathering information on any and every bargain store/cheap restaurant/bar with a great happy hour/sample sale/museum/breathtaking park/free show that we come across.

What we're trying to prove is that there's no price tag on living well. Don't worry about what name brand is stamped on the back of that cute top, just try it on! And yes, you can trick your lover into saving money and spending time outdoors exercising by suggesting a nice walk in the park would be romantic.

Life is too short and precious to constantly worry about bills and how much money you don't have. Instead, appreciate what you've already got and follow our guide to living well and spending less!

If you have any suggestions on places we should highlight, or, great ways to save/make money, write to us as walkergordonproductions@gmail.com

Tales from a Mother: Budgeting in the Name of Fashion!

I am constantly on the go with these two kids attached to my hip. A majority of the time, it is plenty of sacrifice and letting go of that MAC makeup I wanted to buy or those shoes I just NEEDED to have, just so that my family would be good.

It's worth the sacrifice, seeing their faces light up and I know that I would do it again without question. BUT.. (and that is a HUGE but!), when I need some me time, IT IS ALL ABOUT ME!!! I have mastered the art of shopping for me without the hassle. Here, I will share some of my tips on how to maintain your fabulosity on a tight budget!

  • Designer Looks for Less: Websites like Haute Look http://www.hautelook.com/, Ideeli http://www.ideeli.com/, Ruelala http://www.ruelala.com/ and Gilt http://www.gilt.com/ offer designer looks for half the price (up to 75% off!) for their members who sign up. With 24-48 hour sales on anywhere from handbags, clothes, watches, and perfumes, these sales allow us fashionistas to look good without the hassle of empty pockets!
  • Designer Looks for Less (cont.): Places like Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Talbots, Daffys, Express, H&M, Target, Joyce Leslie, Strawberry's, Rainbow and Century 21 ALWAYS have the greatest sales on your favorite items! You can always score a great find rummaging through the clearance racks of these stores, I know I have!
  • Sample Sales: What is New York without the luxury of sample sales? All of my fashionistas know that a sample sale is like the heavens giving you a hug. Where else can you find designer wears for less in some of the most discreet locations in the Big Apple? Websites like Top Button http://topbutton.com/ and Daily Candy http://dailycandy.com/ offer lists of sample sales (and more) throughout the 5 boroughs from a list of premier designers. Magazines like Time Out NY http://www.timeoutny.com/ and newspapers like The New Yorker http://thenewyorker.com/ always offer weekly insight on the hottest sample sales happening near you. If you feel like splurging, you can pay to be in the know with sites like The Bargain HOTline http://www.thebargainhotline.com/ and pay $6 a week or $40 a month for a comparative list of the hottest sales!
  • Fashion Blogs: You can't go wrong with sites designed for the fashionista in mind! Blogs like The Daily Fashionista http://thedailyfashionista.com/ ,Shoeaholics Anonymous http://www.shoeaholicsanonymous.com/ , The Budget Fashionista http://www.thebudgetfashionista.com and The Frugal Fashionista http://frugal-fashionista.blogspot.com/ offer readers their 'know how' tips and insight on the hottest trends happening!

  • Online shopping: One of the best ways to save money while shopping for the latest trends is shopping online! It can be addictive shopping from the comfort of your home while in pajamas and feeding a four month old (at least in my case). Some of my favorite sites to go to are Forever 21 http://forever21.com/, Top Shop http://www.topshop.com/, Cutesy Girl http://www.cutesygirl.com/, DSW http://dsw.com/ Endless http://www.endless.com/, Kitson http://shopkitson.com/ , Urban Outfitters .)http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/ ,) Dulce (owned by Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada,) http://www.dulce.com/ and Fly Jane http://www.flyjane.net/.
  • Online Shopping (cont.): Support your local designers by scouring through sites like Etsy http://www.etsy.com/. Many designers, like one of my favorites Ayanna "Yanni" Dixon of La Bella Bijoux http://labellabijoux.com/, offer handcrafted items for sale on Etsy. Scour the website for more than just fashions as the website is the platform for all!
  • Online Coupons: THE BEST ADDITION TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB EVER!!! The various sites offering you coupons on EVERYTHING you can think of, is definetely something you should keep in your back pocket while adding everything to your online shopping cart! Sites like Fat Wallet http://www.fatwallet.com/, Deal Catcher http://www.dealcatcher.com/, and Retail Me Not http://www.retailmenot.com/ offer savings on everything from shipping to percentages off of your favorite items. They even have codes for additional free items to be added! With a simple search engine where you put in the store you're looking for, you will always find a list of codes to add. Beware, sometimes those codes are expired or do not work altogether. Either way, it is a great way to save!

Did I miss anything? Let me and your fellow readers know your tips! Until then, Happy Shopping Babes!

WHAT TO DO IN NY: "CITY SCAPE: SURVEYING THE URBAN SCOPE"

Socrates Sculpture Park is pleased to announce Cityscape: Surveying the Urban Biotope. Curated by Alyson Baker and Marichris Ty, the show will explore the presence of nature in the fabric of urban life.

"Cityscape" includes eleven new works by artists:

Saul Becker
George Boorujy
William Cordova
David Kennedy Cutler
Lillian Gerson
Janelle Iglesias
Katherine McLeod
Ester Partegàs
Zena Verda Pesta
Christine Howard Sandoval
Mark Lawrence Stafford

The introduction or invasion of plants and animals in the cityscape symbolizes a broad scope of conditions and dynamics – from far reaching social, political, economic and aesthetic issues to an individual’s relationship with their immediate surroundings. Nature’s presence in the urban environment can take many forms: green roofs, community gardens, city parks, corporate plazas; Peregrine Falcons nesting on 5th Avenue balconies; vast populations of rats and pigeons that have readily adapted to the habitat of busy streets; Ailanthus trees growing from crumbling buildings, abandoned construction sites, and cracks in the sidewalk. This range from invited and cultivated to invasive and insidious represents everything from the most innovative urban planning and a trend towards the greening of cities, to a symptom of and contributor to the decay of the built environment.

This exhibition is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency and is supported, in part, by public funds from the City of New York Department of Cultural Affairs.

"City Scape: Surveying the Urban Scope," will be shown through to August 1st:

Socrates Sculpture Park

31-01 Vernon Blvd

Long Island City, NY

(718) 956-1819

N or W to Broadway, Walk 8 blocks to East River

VIEW AND DISCUSS: Anderson Cooper's AC360 Report

Anderson Cooper of CNN recently spoke to students in Georgia ranging in ages as young as 5 with the objective of identifying whether kids still have a racial bias at a young age in 2010 and why.

Cooper has always solicited thought-provoking and controversial commentary on the social, politically and economical events plaguing America. While some, like this subject may be disturbing, Anderson has done his job as a journalist by forcing us to think.

Parents also talk about the different ways they address race with their young children as part of this "AC360" special coverage "Black or White: Kids on race". CNN.com writes:

"A 5-year-old girl in Georgia is being asked a series of questions in her school library. The girl, who is white, is looking at pictures of five cartoons of girls, all identical except for skin color ranging from light to dark.

When asked who the smart child is, she points to a light-skinned doll. When asked who the mean child is she points to a dark-skinned doll. She says a white child is good because "I think she looks like me", and says the black child is ugly because "she's a lot darker."

As she answers her mother watches, and gently weeps."

The study also portrays other children of different backgrounds and races answering the same questions. As painfully obvious as it is, as witnessed in the videos, even in kids as young as 5, have a racial bias of thinking white is smarter, prettier, and better. Watch the videos and give us your take and speak on it.

Parts 2 and 3:

Men Vs. Madness: Insert Hearts, Roses, And Other Sweet Shit Here

The decisions and confusion that take over whenever I meet a man I like. How much do I tell? And, how much can I leave out? It’s like an ex-con being interviewed for a corporate job. I don’t dare say a word. That would be a simple sabotage. Once it’s out there, there’s no taking it back. That’s the person they’ll always see. Even when that person is miles away from who I’ve become. I don’t want to ruin it. I want the man. But, I don’t want to have to tip toe around any secrets.

One of the pleasures I got from living in a small town was, everyone knowing everything there was to know about me, whether I liked it or not. No secrets. Now, I’m in this big, crazy ass city and it’s like, nobody knows my name. I’m a blank page with nice tits.

I don’t even know who I am when I’m on a date. I get distant and awkward, like I don’t want to be there. Or worse, I turn into a real Negative Nancy and critique his every move. By the end of the evening, I’ve chopped him down to size and, he can’t get me home soon enough.

I’ve been doing this for years. For YEARS. I’m twenty-eight now. I don’t want to be doing this at thirty-eight.

Which leads me back to my madness. I think it’s always been easier for me to go through men like sweat socks - without either of us ever getting a real feel of who the other is, than sticking it out with one worthy guy and letting him see who I really am. I don’t know if I’m ready to invite someone into my world. A world filled with indecisiveness and mood swings. Spontaneous behavior and “heightened” sensitivity.

I don’t know how loud I’m ready to announce that I’m afflicted with mental illness. I don’t like how it sounds out loud. "I went through depression throughout my teens, but I’ve dealt with that and put it behind me.” I read that script. It didn’t work. People ask. Men ask. The want to know what “made” me like that. Then, they go into their story’s about when they were sad. Nine out of ten times, it can’t hold a candle to the shit I’ve been through. But I listen and I nod, and I tell them, “That’s heavy”. And then I think to myself, Why didn’t I just stay in tonight?

Because, that’s what happens when I tell a guy I’m dating about my relationship with depression. Not the first date either. I’m talking many outings down the road. They find out, and they want to fix me. They want to make me “better”. And when they can’t, they bail. They’re like, “Why bother? She’s broken.” I’m aware of how heinous that is to dismiss someone for something they can’t control, so I’m all-too-happy when lame-o’s stop calling and texting.

I think about how important it’s going to be to convince Future Lover that I’m in stable condition. Even though depression is a disease that warrants minimal levels of concern, love, and a listening ear, it doesn’t have to hinder a relationship. Then, I think about how I need to convince that to myself.
Ahh, the decisions and confusion that takes over whenever I meet a man I like!

My Most Important Post

It took me over a year to muster up the courage to watch Boy Interrupted from beginning to end. When I finally did, I had to watch it over and over again, just to make sure I was truly seeing what I thought I was. A mother who captured the life of her son on camera, from birth, until his funeral, fifteen years later. A son, Evan, who suffered from bi-polar disorder. Evan came from the most nurturing, supportive, financially-fit family imaginable. Still, he talked and flirted with suicide until he finally went through with it, while he was home with his family.

My mental illness is greatly triggered by life's events and emotional issues (so I've been told). I'd always been fine with that. To me, that simply meant that if I changed my events and issues, I could have a better grip on my mood. I was such a slave to this theory. Even when I switched everything up and my bad mood was still persistant, rather than adopt a new method, I'd chalk it up as a fluke and keep trucking. After watching Boy Interrupted, I couldn't do that anymore.

Evan's sheer existence shattered every fiber of my theory. The war he fought every day was within himself. Not a classroom or his home. There was nothing unstable in his set-up. Obviously, you can come from a nurturing, supportive, financially-fit family, and have all the luck in the world, and still have no control over certain thoughts and negative emotions.

I've been struggling to believe that for my entire life. I don't ever want to believe that I have no control over with the direction my mood swings. Even though there's times I'm a complete bitch to my downward spirals, to accept that my form of mental illness must be tended to for the rest of my life is incomprehensible. A simple, non-negotiable.

The thing about Evan that made him such a stand out to me, was his creativity. He wrote everything from plays, to songs, to short films. He created more in his fifteen years than I have my entire life. All the works he produced have the tone of a young man trying to find a way through his despair. At fifteen, everything I wrote sounded like a fifteen year old girl trying too hard to be cool and insightful.

Once, I even made my mom sit down and watch it with me. I wanted her to see - as a mother, that sometimes, regretfully, there are things that a mother has no control over, and sadly, she has to reliquish all guilt. She has to let it go. She has to believe that she did the best she could. My mother. Evans mother. Myself. Because, whether you're the parent of a victim of mental illness, or guilty by diagnosis, there's a level of guilt we carry that is not our own.

Several times throughtout watching the film with my mother, I wanted to tell her that I would never try to commit suicide again. But, I couldn't. I'm not sure enough. Something tells me that Evan might have said that to himself a time or two. No control over which way your mood swings.

The past few months, I've been more concerned with trying to enhance the positive in my life, and giving the cold shoulder to all things negative, like mental illness. I've been working a lot more, and developing a new website with a good friend. It's all about women, progress, inspiration, and movement. It's about being your best you, regardless of your disadvantages, flaws, age, waist line. I thought about all the women I know or want to get to know that would be great examples of how to live out loud and encourage others to do the same. Everyone from authors, actors, and high school teachers crossed my mind.

And then, I thought about Dana Perry. I thought about all the good work she's produced and directed with Hart (her husband), for Perry Films Productions. I thought how many times I watched Boy Interrupted, and I thought about all the questions I've been wanting to ask her. Questions that go beyond any side project or blog. Questions that, I think, might be able to save my life.

Getting an actual, sit-down interview was far beyond my realm of comprehension. For goodness sakes, this woman's work airs on PBS, VH1, and HBO. It's not TV... It's HBfuckingO! I didn't really think that even getting in contact with her was a possibility. But as I Googled her like a mad woman, archiving her Tweets, I thought about this little 'ole blog of mine, and realized how close to home this was hitting. There's so much that I've taken from Evan's life. If he can make me feel so understood and validated, I know he could do the same for countless others.

So, I did it. I sat down and wrote an email to the uber-successful, award-winning, producer/director. I told her who I was. Why Boy Interrupted was so important to me. What ShesSoNewYork.com is all about. And, why I wanted to interview her for the site. I will be damned, SHE WROTE ME BACK! She said she would "definitely" do an interview. I cried on the spot. I was at work, ringing in the order for a table. I call it, The Vibration That Changed My Life.

And now, I'm stuck on dumb, trying to process this all. I started this blog because I wanted to educate myself about depression. Find a way to come to grips with who I have become because of it. In the process, I am not only getting better in terms of my own personal progress, I have an infinite opportunity to help others along on their paths. Because, I believe that Dana Perry does that every time she talks about Evan.

"Boy Interrupted"

"What do you wear to your son's funeral? Your son who flew out of his bedroom window because he couldn't stand the pain anymore; your son you had taken to so many doctors, therapists, emergency rooms and hospitals; your son whose birth was the happiest day of your life; Your son whose lifeless body you finally got access to by desperately ringing the neighbor's bell and going through the dark labyrinth of the basement with a flashlight, screaming his name; your dead son whose eyes you closed when you went to the hospital to see him one last time; your son who loved you but left you anyway, whose beauty had always made your heart skip a beat; your son you loved with all your heart and more..."

A Word From Portia

The initial idea for ShesSoNewYork.com came from the worst moment of my life. Within two hours of each other, my computer and Blackberry crashed. The first large purchases in my new apartment just upped and died. I didn't see it coming! The screen flashed what they call the "blue screen of death." Tres Mortifying. I wallslide, just thinking about it; it was that unreal for me. MY BELOVED BLACKBERRY!?!? ('scuse me, caught a flashback of pain... it's like my own vietnam).

Sooo... the scorecard should now read: no technology, one husband, two sons, and too much time on my hands to think. I pondered over several ideas I had placed on the mental backburner. Here enters Tamela. She and I are kindred spirits, high school friends with fond memories of Crown Fried Chicken, Afrocentricism (equipped with incense, headwraps, and books filled with poems) and The Tom Green Show (good times). I laid on her my idea of this website that I thought would be great for us to create. As writers with a passion for reading and creativity, we are constantly piggybacking off each other with talks about everything under the sun. Even after a ten year distance, we picked up where we left off (without the weight-gain and teen angst).

Here's the biggest similarity wItalice noticed during this first meeting of the minds: we have a lot in common with other women. We are, actually, walking billboards for the everyday New York woman. Focus, yet, free-spirited. Caring for everyone but ourselves. Filled with hopes and dreams we guard with our lives. Working on a schedule so tight and fast-paced, track stars would have a problem keeping up. Busy, trying to juggle our careers, our love lives, our children, our families, and ourselves. Because, no matter who we are or where we come from, as women, we experience the same trials and tribulations, no matter how different we may appear to be on the outside. It was with that understanding that we're creating a website that didn't identify with one kind of woman. We want all women of New York to come together.

We're not creating a website - we're building a community! ShesSoNewYork.com is going to be loaded with your stories, interviews that are relevant to you, places to eat, shop, and be entertained that are affordable and worth the time. We're going to keep you up-to-date with all the things that matter to you: music, fashion, books, wellness, nightlife, beauty, politics, relationships- the ultimate safe haven.

Until we officially launch (late-summer of this year!) be sure to check back here for the latest updates and listings from the ShesSoNewYork.com family. Also, check us out on Facebook (She's So New York) and on twitter (ShesSoNewYork). We are asking you to spread the word and let us know what you're looking to see on your new favorite website!

I thank you in all in advance from the bottom of my heart, you have no idea how much this means to Tami and I. The revolution begins with us, and I have my party shoes on ready to celebrate!!

A Lesson To Live By

What I remember about Jessica Rothman was her determination to force a classroom filled with urban high school kids to get serious about the art of theater. She was the first one to encourage one of us to pursue acting as a career - so long as we went to college.

Some people quit the entertainment business after a few years, a decade even, for the hard learners. Once they realize they're never going to become the next Gwyneth or Twilight punk, they throw in the towel. J. Rothman has has managed to keep the credits rolling on her ever-budding career. For decades.

It was a fine Sunday evening, and, Portia and I were looking forward to the latest episode of HBO's, How To Make It In America. The show quickly became our most favorite must-see once we got the premise: two twenty-somethings in Manhattan, trying with all their might to hustle-and-dime their way to success, by whatever means necessary.

Fast forward to the end of the most emotional scene of the series. The two leads (who, coincidentally, happen to be hot as hell!) have lost their "product"- a shitload of t-shirts they paid for with every last cent they had (including rent), after their company truck was stolen - t-shirts in tow. After one of the leads decides that luck is not on their side, he finds himself down-and-out on the train, probably pondering his options. Just as I'm about to cry, who do I spot but the one and only, Jessica Rothman. She's sitting next to the lead, looking incredibly normal and unconcerned. She didn't have any lines and wasn't listed in the credits, but she was there. She was there! Persuing her passion with everything she has. The following week, Portia and I ordered the episode On Demand and freeze-framed Rothman's scene. We watched it no less than a dozen times. We laughed. We came close to crying. We sat in silence, trying to figure out how we could take this woman's life and turn it into a true story of inspiration, a tool used to inspire others, the way it had us.

Keep in mind - she didn't have a speaking part. She didn't say a word. But, she was there! For us, her mere presence in this critically acclaimed, motivating production was a pure testament of how far you can get when you put your passion first.

We recently got in contact with Mrs. Rothman. We told her all about ShesSoNewYork.com, then mustered up the courage to ask for an in-depth interview. Now that she's agreed, we - the students, are gathering all the information we can find on J. Rothman - the teacher. We are going to sit her down and ask her questions. And, if all goes according as planned, we'll be doing it on the very same high school stage she directed us! It's so full circle, we can barely catch our breath.

Our reason for choosing Mrs. Rothman as a woman who we should all aspire to be, has nothing to do with the fact that she was our teacher, or that she's often on big time TV shows. It's simply because, she's built her entire life on love and passion, and in return it has paid her back well. And also, if you try at something hard enough, the walls will break and eventually, you will make it.

We look forward to working on our J. Rothman piece and will definitely keep you updated. If you or someone likes you who is currently in heavy pursuit of you passion, please write to us! Share your story just by being HERE

So, Let Us Tell You How We're Going To Change Your Life

"Let's do something to show how magical every woman is, no matter her job, shape, or handicap." That's how this whole thing got started. Portia and I were power-lunching in the Village as she described her ultimate idea - so fresh, it didn't even have a name. It was just a concept. A network. A way that women could inspire each each other, via our stories, experiences, and resources.

We started feeding off each others ideas until we pulled together something cohesive. A website, geared for New York City women - but, relevant to every woman, that would show off our many different lives, cultures, and passions.

And just like that, the ball got rolling.

We got in contact with long-lost friends and people we've only read about, everyoe being all-too-eager to sign on and give us their time. We came up with a name, ShesSoNewYork.com. And then, a staff. A street team. A photographer. Established actors, dancers, and other professionals. All of them, willing to give a part of themselves, with the hope that someone else could do something good with it.

By compiling articles, stories from real women from every burough, interviews from accomplished professionals, tips on how to get the most out of your life - no matter who you are or what you've got, and little antedotes here and there to make the day go by, ShesSoNewYork.com is going to fill a gap for the real, every day woman that's been vacant for far too long.

While you're reading this, Portia, myself, along w/ the rest of the SSNY staff are hard at work, getting ready for our late-summer launch. Consider this our home-away-from-home until then. We'll be using this blog to give you up-to-date information on what we're working on and how you can be a part of it!

In the mean time, please feel free to contact myself, Portia, or anyone in the ShesSoNewYork.com family. We're open to all ideas and suggestions. As of yet, we've got a great staff and street team, ready to get to work. All we need are a few good women!
